  • York University - Sustainable on the Go Conference

    York University is hosting the Sustainable and Inclusive Internationalization Virtual Conference, co-organized by York International, the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education Towards Sustainability and international partners, from January 20th to 22nd, 2021. The Conference will bring together scholars, international mobility professionals and practitioners, policymakers, sustainability experts and other stakeholders to discuss the evolving status of international mobility in higher education in Canada and globally, critically reflect on where we are now, and to collectively build a future vision of international mobility that is inclusive, innovative and responsive to the global sustainability challenges of our times.

    IAU is pleased to partner with York University for this conference, as well as with the other partners the Canadian Commission for UNESCO and Okayama University.

  • University of South Africa (UNISA) appoints first female Vice Chancellor in 148 years

    The Council of the University of South Africa (UNISA) is proud to announce that, in a move unprecedented since the establishment of the university 148 years ago, it will have its first female Principal and Vice Chancellor with effect from 01 January 2021.
    This follows the approval of the appointment of Professor Puleng LenkaBula as the incoming Principal and Vice Chancellor during the special sitting of the UNISA Council on Thursday, 05 November 2020.
    Professor LenkaBula, who is currently the Vice Rector: Institutional Change, Student Affairs and Community Engagement at the University of the Free State (UFS), has extensive managerial experience in higher education. Prior to occupying the Vice Rector position at the UFS, she was the Dean of Students at WITS University, where she was a member of the Vice Chancellor’s Office (VCO) and the Senior Executive Team.   • The University of Gothenburg - Six students received this year’s Sustainability Thesis Award, GUSTA

    Six students at the University of Gothenburg were given this year’s GUSTA award for their outstanding theses written on topics related to sustainable development. The winning theses covered a broad range of topics across several programmes in various faculties which include: Political science, Innovation and Industrial Management and Global studies.
    The University of Gothenburg’s Sustainability Thesis Award, GUSTA, recognizes and offers awards to outstanding theses written on sustainable development related topics within the University of Gothenburg. The award is administrated by the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development. GUSTA was launched in 2019.   • Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU) a key participant in UNESCO’s Futures Literacy Summit

    To foster the knowledge, development, and reach of futures studies, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU) is proudly participating in the High-Level Futures Literacy Summit, held by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from 8 to 12 December 2020. PMU, which has entered into a partnership with UNESCO, will contribute in multiple ways to the virtual summit.

    Dr. Issa Al Ansari, President of PMU, will first deliver an opening speech on the university’s involvement in the enrichment of future studies. The university will further present and participate in workshops, announce research grants, and offer a virtual exhibition.   • Assam Don Bosco University - Call for papers: International Conference on Emerging Renewable and Modern Energy (ICERME-2021)

    Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), as set by the UN General Assembly, aims to correct the enormous imbalance by ensuring everyone has access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services by the year 2030. Hence, to support the above-mentioned global energy agenda, Assam Don Bosco University appointed as the Cluster Leader formed by the International Association of Universities for SDG7 (Affordable & Clean Energy), is organizing an Online International Conference on Emerging Renewable and Modern Energy (ICERME-2021) on 12-13 February 2021. This conference intends to build a coherent sustainable network of relationships among budding researchers, innovators, industry professionals and the intelligentsia to discuss various sustainable energy opportunities for transforming lives, economies and the planet.   • Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP) - 34th Anniversary

    On its 34th Anniversary, the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP) celebrates the birth of the AULP Mobility Programme, the first academic mobility programme that exclusively covers student exchanges between institutions from Portuguese-speaking countries and Macao (MSAR). The Program, OEI-AULP Travel Grants is dedicated to students wishing to study at higher education institutions in Portugal and Brazil and PALOP-TL PROCULTURE Grants (addressed to undergraduate and master students in areas related to Culture) were also made available.

    The success of AULP is also the success of the Higher Education Institutions that are part of it and, together, contribute to the development of higher education and the dissemination of the Portuguese language in the world.

  • Central European University - European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities

    Central European University (CEU) launches a call for applications for the tenth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities. This pioneering award, first announced in 2011 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Central European University, honors academics in the social sciences and humanities who teach at higher education institutions in the European Higher Education Area.
    The Diener Prize of 5,000 euros, which accompanies the award, is made possible by a generous gift from Steven and Linda Diener in memory of Ilona Diener.
    Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2021 and should be sent electronically to: TeachingAward@ceu.edu.

    The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted higher education worldwide. Both national authorities and decision-makers in higher education institutions needed to adapt very rapidly to both the crisis and a completely new environment. To what extent were they prepared to deal with such an unprecedented situation? What are the factors that allowed some systems and institutions to adapt more rapidly and more effectively than others did in terms of prevention, preparedness, and responses? In other words, what are the factors that foster resilience in higher education, and what should we take into account for the future of planning higher education?
