The International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) have agreed to strengthen joint collaboration to advance and promote the contribution of higher education to meeting our shared global challenges, with a view to signing a formal memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2020, and work together on various projects, as well as advocate together at UN and UNESO high-level events for the role of higher education for sustainable development and SDGs (see also: IAU at the UN HLPF).

SOS-UK is a student-led education charity focusing on sustainability. The IAU has renewed the cooperation agreement with them in June 2021 and also works closely with SOS International, supporting the Global Student Survey on Sustainability (https://sos.earth/survey/). The Francophone University Association (AUF) brings together more than 1000 higher education institutions, networks and scientific research centers that use French language in 119 countries.

The Green Gown awards recognize exceptional higher education sustainability initiatives. Since 2016, IAU has been taking part as jury member or partner in different versions of the Green Gown awards, in the French-speaking edition of the Green Gown Awards Les Trophées des Campus Responsables and increasingly as supporting partner of the International Green Gown Awards since 2019, which are awarded during the annual UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). Sulitest is a non-profit organization aiming at raising awareness regarding sustainability matters. IAU is a Member of the SULITEST Administrative Board and contributes to the development and awareness raising of this test tool and overall project. "Sustainability Literacy" is the knowledge, skills and mindsets that allow individuals to become deeply committed to build a sustainable future and that help them to make informed and effective decisions to this end. The COPERNICUS Alliance is a European network of universities and colleges committed to transformational learning and change for sustainable development. It aims to enable European higher education institutions and their partners to jointly identify challenges in higher education for sustainable development and spearhead development of processes, tools, and knowledge to address these challenges from a whole-institution perspective. IAU and COPERNICUS Alliance signed a partnership agreement in 2016 and have collaborated ever since on various projects for HESD, including the virtual Higher Education Summit 2020 (HES2020).
