IAU and UNU-IAS
IAU partners with UNU-IAS, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, based in Tokyo, on several projects. IAU is a founding Member of the Ubuntu Committee of Peers for RCEs - The Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development. IAU is also a Member of the Ubuntu Alliance, a strategic alliance of education, science and technology organisations working towards achieving sustainable development for which UNU-IAS acts as Secretariat and which contributes to achieving the Ubuntu Declaration.

IAU and IIEP
IAU has a longstanding partnership with the International Institute of Educational Planning (UNESCO IIEP). Recent partnerships include the book
Quality Management in higher education: Developments and Drivers. The book draws from a survey of quality practices in over 300 institutions worldwide conducted with the IAU. In November 2020, IAU Secretary-General, Hilligje van’t Land, takes part in the IIEP strategic debate on Resilience in higher education - what lessons can we draw from COVID-19? The debate will examine the factors that foster resilience in higher education now and for the future. The IIEP Library has been a longstanding partner to HEDBIB, IAU’s International Bibliographical Database on Higher Education, contributing references to the database and in 2019 hosting an event for IIEP staff and students where IAU’s Information Centre and its databases were presented.- International Institute of Educational Planning (UNESCO IIEP): http://www.iiep.unesco.org/en

IAU and UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning
UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), located in Hamburg, Germany, is one of UNESCO’s key education-related institutes and is the only organizational unit in the UN family that holds a global mandate for lifelong learning. Taking a holistic and integrated, inter-sectoral and cross-sectoral approach to lifelong learning as the guiding paradigm for 21st century education, UIL promotes and supports lifelong learning with a focus on adult learning, continuing education, literacy and non-formal basic education. Its activities place particular emphasis on furthering educational equity for disadvantaged groups and in the countries most afflicted by poverty and conflict.
In 2020 - 2021 IAU worked with UIL on the elaboration and dissemination of a Global Survey on the role of HE for LLL. The outcomes Report will be presented at the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference 2022

IAU and UNESCO IESALC
UNESCO IESALC (International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean)
UNESCO IESALC, based in Caracas, Venezuela, is the sole specialized institute of the United Nations system with the mission to contribute to the improvement of higher education in member States.
IAU and IESALC have cooperated together for many years. Most recently, in May 2020, both organisations signed an agreement to plan a series of joint activities in particular in Latin America and the Caribbean. UNESCO IESALC and the IAU will cooperate on the publication of regional reports drawing on IAU’s global surveys in critical areas such as the contribution of higher education to the Sustainable Development Goals, the digitalization of higher education, the internationalization of higher education, and the impact of COVID-19 on higher education.

IAU and UNODC
UNODC United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime and responsible for implementing the United Nations lead programme on terrorism. UNODC also works to improve crime prevention and assist with criminal justice reform in order to strengthen the rule of law, promote stable and viable criminal justice systems and combat the growing threats of transnational organized crime and corruption. UNODC’s Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, seeks to prevent crime and promote the rule of law through education activities designed for primary, secondary and tertiary levels. These activities help educators teach the next generation to better understand and address problems that can undermine the rule of law and encourage students to actively engage in their communities and future professions in this regard.

As part of this initiative, IAU took part in the first episode of a new podcast series ’Voices of Academia’ dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and higher education (September 2020). Most recently, IAU participated in the workshop on ’Developing transformational partnerships to catalyze SDGs implementation’ co-organised by UNODC in the context of the 2020 UN HLPF (online).

Education for Justice -
IAU and OECD
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an intergovernmental organisation which produces data, analysis and policy recommendations in a broad range of social, economic and environmental issues, including education.
IAU participated as a consultative stakeholder in the Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes (AHELO) project, and was previously involved in the former OECD’s Higher Education Programme. IAU participates in various ad hoc OECD debates and discussions on HE.

IAU and COUNCIL OF EUROPE
The Council of Europe (CoE) is composed of 47 member states. The Council of Europe works in the following areas: democracy, law, human rights, education, protection of children, social rights and linguistic and minority rights. The work of the CoE in higher education focuses on issues related to qualifications, public responsibility for higher education and research, and higher education governance.
IAU partners with the Council of Europe as co-editors in The Council of Europe Higher Education Series, is a member of Council of Europe Steering Committee for Education Policy and Practice (CDPPE), takes part in the Council of Europe Expert Group on the Local Mission of Higher Education, the Expert Group on Competences for Democratic Culture, the CDPPE Task Force on a Council of Europe education response to COVID-19 and sat on the expert group that developed the European Framework for Competences for Democratic Culture.

IAU and WORLD BANK GROUP
The World Bank is a global organisation headquartered in Washington DC. It provides financial and technical assistance to developing countries in such areas as education, health, public administration, infrastructure, agriculture, and environmental and natural resource management.
IAU partnerships with the World Bank have included the SABER Tertiary Education (System Approach for Better Education Results) programme, the International mapping of tertiary education leadership training programmes, and the Ranepa university, Russian Federation, project on internationalization. -

UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. UNESCO’s programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030.
IAU is an official partner of UNESCO (Associate status). IAU partners with UNESCO for the World Higher Education Database (WHED); for the Futures of Education global initiative; has partnered on several projects in the UNESCO Participation Programme, currently on sustainable development; and at regular global conferences. Most recently, IAU has joined the UNESCO Global Education Coalition which seeks to facilitate inclusive learning opportunities during this period of unprecedented educational disruption.
