  • IAU and Palgrave Macmillan

    Palgrave Macmillan is an international publisher of a wide range of books and journals in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

    It is publisher of IAU’s quarterly journal ‘Higher Education Policy’ and of IAU’s flagship publication the International Handbook of Universities.

  • IAU and U-MULTIRANK

    U-Multirank is a multidimensional, user-driven approach to international ranking of higher education institutions. It enables comparisons at the level of the university as a whole and at the level of specific study programmes. is developed and implemented on the initiative of the European Commission by an independent consortium led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany. IAU sits on the U-Multirank Advisory Board.

  • IAU and NAFSA

    NAFSA: Association of International Educators

    NAFSA is a US-based association focused on international education and exchange. It provides networking and training opportunities together with resources for international educators.

    NAFSA is a Member of IAU. NAFSA was a sponsor of IAU’s Fifth Global Survey on Internationalization and is a member of NIEA, the Network of International Education Associations which is coordinated by IAU.

  • IAU and Observatory Magna Charta Universitatum

    Magna Charta Observatory

    The Observatory aims to be the guardian for fundamental university values and to assist universities and higher education systems to operate effectively in accordance with them. Based in Bologna, the Observatory monitors the status of institutional autonomy and academic freedom worldwide and works to uphold the principles contained with the Magna Charta Universitatum.

    An Affiliate Member of the IAU, Magna Charta Observatory and the IAU have cooperated together since the MCO’s inception in 1988. Former Secretary General of the IAU, Eva Egron-Polak, was a member of MCO Governing Council.

  • IAU and HESI

    Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI)

    HESI is a global collective that brings together both UN entities and Higher Education Sustainability Networks to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to encourage higher education institutions to commit to teach sustainable development concepts, encourage research on sustainable development issues, green their campuses, and support sustainability efforts in their communities.

    IAU is part of the HESI network and IAU gave a keynote address ] at the HESI special event at the 2020 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

  • IAU and EAIE

    European Association for International Education (EAIE) provides expertise, networking and resources in the internationalization of higher education. It provides training, conferences and knowledge acquisition and sharing.

    IAU and EAIE have a sister organisation agreement, cooperating with other’s international conferences. EAIE is also a member of NIEA, the Network of International Education Associations which is coordinated by IAU.

  • IAU and DAAD

    DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, promotes the international exchange of students and scientists, the internationalization of German universities, and supports developing countries in setting up universities.

    DAAD partnered with the IAU to provide support for the 5th Global Survey on Internationalization of Higher Education.

  • IAU and COPERNICUS

    COPERNICUS ALLIANCE

    The COPERNICUS Alliance is a European network of universities and colleges committed to transformational learning and change for sustainable development. Through partnership with society, it aims to re-orient higher education programmes and research towards sustainable development.

    The COPERNICUS Alliance is an Affiliate Member of the IAU. Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IAU to work on Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development (HESD), it is a key partner in IAU’s Working Group on Sustainable Development.

  • IAU and AUF

    AUF, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, is the agency for Francophone universities in 119 countries. The AUF works towards universities who are actively engaged in economic, social and cultural development of societies.

    AUF, a Member of the IAU, has a long history of cooperation with the IAU. Most recently, together with the Association of Commonwealth universities, all three organisations have partnered together to strengthen joint collaboration to advance and promote the contribution of higher education to meeting our shared global challenges and have issued a joint Statement on Higher education’s essential contribution to the SDGs.

    AUF partnered with the IAU to provide support for the 5th Global Survey on Internationalization of Higher Education and is also working together with IAU in the follow-up project to the survey on internationalization in francophone countries.

  • IAU and ARES

    ARES, the Académie de recherche et d’enseignement supérieur (Academy for Research and Higher Education) is the umbrella organisation of higher education institutions in francophone Belgium.

    IAU and ARES work together in the field of internationalization. ARES has partnered with the IAU to provide support for the 5th Global Survey on Internationalization of Higher Education and currently in the follow-up project to the survey on internationalization in francophone countries.
